A Pictorial Of Female Facial Expressions

Shocked

Intrigued

Distracted

And They Called It Puppy Love…

While walking through Central Park, I came across a woman who was taking pictures of her dog and herself.

At first glance it was her outfit that drew me in. Always a sucker for a 70's inspired outfit, I had to capture the loose fitting, bright blue, bell bottom jeans and the scuffed, brown engineer boots hidden beneath them.

The bright red button down shirt, tucked into the blue jeans, is a great accent piece. The tan, hip length jacket allows only minor parts of the red show through, creating an exceptional look. She even marries the red shirt to her nail polish and her dog's plastic bag dispenser.

Aw, and there's the kiss...

Break Up The Black

A black outfit is classic, but can also be dull. Layering the ensemble is a great way to add color and texture. This young woman dons a short, black motorcycle jacket, with black skinny jeans. Alone these two items would flat, but a long grey shirt creates a little contrast. The color difference is minimal, but enough to break up the outfit, making it more appealing to the eye (and also accentuating the hips). The beige, suede booties are also a nice addition of color at the base of the black jean.

As Temperatures Change, You Won’t Have to

Spring is a difficult time of year to dress for work. You know, even if it is cold when you leave the house, there is a good chance it will be a scorcher by lunch. A pair of stretch twill, ankle length pants are a great compromise between shorts and pants, giving you enough coverage to stay warm, and enough exposed skin to catch a breeze. The metallic gold docksiders are a nice touch, and noticeable from a distance.

This young woman's sweater is extremely versatile. The Thick yarn and cable knitting are great for staying warm, yet the loose scoop neck and open knit designs allow for you to stay cool when it warms up.

Smart Looking, Smart Casual

Smart Casual is a great style both for the office and on the streets. This young man pairs a tan plaid sport coat with creased, slim fitting, grey slacks. The brown side buckle shoes are an accent, as well as a compliment to the sport coat.

The pink, french cuff, cutaway collar shirt is a great accent. The pink color is bright and noticeable, but ties in well with the tan sport coat. The navy blue tie, with a windsor knot, narrows the neck and draws a powerful line down the center of the chest.

Pearls & Spikes: Beauty With An Attitude

This young woman is wearing only solid color items, but she makes them her own as she styles them accordingly. Her black leggings are loose, not tight like you would usually see. Her shirt is a simple grey scoop neck tee. But here is where it gets interesting. Her black high heel shoes are covered in 3/4 inch conical spikes. Yet, her olive drab (yes, her too) field jacket is adorned with pearls. The additions to this outfit are an undeniably unique touch.

Her style is glamorous and rebellious, reminding me of Debbie Harry. She even has the Billy Idol snarl on her face.

A little Detail Goes A Long Way

It is amazing how something as small as a pocket square can help tie together an entire outfit. Just take a look at this man.

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Two Legendary Musicians You’ve Probably Never Heard Of Team Up In New York

Jimmy Vivino (left) and Felix Cabrera (right) put on a great performance in Port Washington, NY.

The Felix Cabrera Band reunited with guitarist Jimmy Vivino last weekend for a concert in Port Washington, NY.  The set included a few well-known covers bolstered by their blues and Latin originals.  The dance floor was full the entire night as people only stopped dancing to chuckle at the witty onstage banter.

Felix Cabrera was born in Havana, Cuba.  Though he moved to Miami, FL at a young age, his Latin heritage has stayed strong, both in his life and in his music.  Cabrera, a musical child, fell in love when he heard Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” on the radio, and bought his first harmonica the very next day.  He played along with recordings of artists, such as BB King and Muddy Waters.

Cabrera bounced around from genre to genre, finally forming his own band “Felix and the Havanas” in 1984.  Blending Rock n’ Roll with Latin beats, “the Havanas” had a unique sound, which gained notoriety when they opened for James Brown.  In the 1990’s Cabrera joined Jimmy Vivino for the first time in “The Black Italians.”  Their music careers have since intertwined on numerous occasions.

You might know Jimmy Vivino from his day job as Conan O’Brein’s bandleader on TBS.  Before he became a late night bandleader, Vivino held a number of gigs.  He was born into a musical family in Paterson, NJ in 1955.   Learning trumpet, guitar and keyboard, Vivino soon found himself in demand as a studio musician.

After moving to New York City, Vivino became a Broadway musical director at the young age of 30.  Though his show closed after only a few months, Vivino kept his feet under him.  He began working with Al Kooper (Blood, Sweat & Tears) and John Sebastian (The Lovin’ Spoonful), even working as a musical director on movies, such as Sister Act and The First Wives Club.

Today, when not working on Conan, Vivino moonlights with his old friends.  He and The Felix Cabrera Band have put on a number of shows in the Greater New York area over the past few years.  Between the screaming harmonicas and vibrating guitar licks, the show is really something that must be seen.  Both Cabrera and Vivino have a great time on stage and it shows, both in the music and in their interactions with each other and the audience.

Cabrera really worked up a sweat on stage that night.

The two have very different styles, but mesh so well on stage.

A More Formal Cut For A Jean Jacket

A truly stylish take on the jean jacket. This woman sports a denim blazer over a white shirt, with horizontal stripes, in the streets of SoHo.

The big red scarf was quite noticeable as she walked up the street. It helps to bring out the red highlights in her hair, and matches the inner lining of the blazer that she has exposed by rolling up her cuffs. The black ankle length pants are very flattering for her figure, and allow her intricate, high heeled sandals to be admired.

Silk & Sadness

The park is usually filled with such joy; a moment like this doesn't appear very often. I felt her sadness as I took the pictures, and when I reviewed them that, not her outfit, was the overwhelming star.

I could not help but watch as her face grew longer and longer. I wanted to get closer, to find out what exactly could be making such a beautiful young woman so sad. The brisk wind of the day probably didn't help her situation, as the silk shirt she was wearing didn't offer much protection.

I could not stay, and so I wished her the best of luck from a far, heading, again, on my own way.
