Above & Beyond That Old Yellow Rain Suit

In New York's West Village, I came across this young woman standing at an intersection. There was something about her; as I moved closer I could begin to see what it was. Though she had dressed for the melancholy weather, she had done so in a way that unique. She wasn't wearing sweat pants or jeans with a simple raincoat, she was wearing beige leggings tucked into her wool-lined booties. Her raincoat was actually a belted, olive drab trench with a hood. Though she carried an umbrella, in the same hand she carried a small beige handbag. It was this contradiction that, looking back, drew my eye and made her a great subject.

Color Blocking At Its Finest

I really didn't know how important color is until today's bleak scenery showed me. The art of color blocking is perfected by this lovely redhead. Her red polka dotted pants are rolled up to ankle length, revealing her amazing multicolor polka dotted sneakers. Her green belted trench and bright orange handbag are the only two solid color items in the ensemble. Her black and white striped, fingerless gloves add the only strong lines on the outfit, but the scarf ties right into the polka dot motif.

Blonde In Black On Broadway

The all black outfit was out in full force today. This lady apparently got the memo, but wanted to stray a little. Her black leggings are tucked into her black, slouch cowboy boots. Her handbag, other than its silver studs is made completely of black leather. However, we are able to catch a peak of her grey sweater, hidden beneath her fringed, black poncho. The black poncho does work well as a contrast, as her blonde hair cascades over her shoulders.

My New Favorite Blazer

This guy has a great sense of style. His Carolyn Massey two toned blazer is awesome. The top two-thirds of the blazer is a grey herringbone, but the bottom third has been dyed blue. His deep v cardigan leaves room for his white polo collar, which matches the pattern on the cardigan. His straight leg blue jeans are cuffed at the bottom, showing off his worn brown leather boots.

A Colorful Sight For Sore Eyes

Grey skies covered New York City today.  With intermittent rain showers and cold winds blowing throughout the day, New Yorkers bundled back up in their winter wear.  Walking through Midtown was depressing, not just because it was a cold, rainy, Monday, but because of the lack of color.  Where is it written that when it rains you can’t wear color?  The masses moved together, like a flood of black down Fifth Avenue, which made this young lady stand out as a sight for sore eyes.

Her bright orange coat and royal blue color give a grey day a little color.

Simple & Silhouette Friendly

this woman's outfit is made up of simple items, but together they make a superb ensemble. The belted trench thins the waist, and the skinny jeans and high heeled booties add some length and toning to the legs. This outfit is definitely a friend to your silhouette.

The contrast cuffs on her trench are a nice touch. The bangs and ponytail add a face softening and multifaceted appearance that can look as good in the office or on the dance floor. The tortoise shell glasses accentuate the eyes, as well as the hair style. Her blue bag is tied into the outfit by the blue speckles on her scarf and the blue bangle on her wrist.

TREND ALERT: Sheer Tops Are Here!

The growing trend of sheer clothing was started in Hollywood with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Paris Hilton, Kate Moss and most recently Rihanna exposing themselves in front of the paparazzi.  The shock and awe caused news of these events to jet across the world.  Though, unlike these exposed celebrities, the women of New York City seem to be courteous (or bashful) enough to keep themselves covered under their sheer tops.

A simple black bra keeps you covered, even while exposing yourself in a sheer shirt.

This woman shows that there is no age limit for sheer tops. The white polka dots and pearl necklace are a nice touch.

This tall brunette wears a pair of black military boots, black shorts, and a sheer top. The front's black and white design helps to hide her shame, but the back...

...doesn't hide a thing.

This lady in Bryant Park has great style. Her sweater, sheer blouse and spaghetti string tank all match, creating a subtle layered look. Her Tory Burch shoes are pretty great as well.

Let's not forget her Louis Vuitton handbag.

This young woman wins the prize for the best sheer top. A black and white, sleeveless, sheer bowling shirt. I really like the pockets, and how they match the spaghetti strap tank she has underneath.

The purple nail polish adds just a touch of color to the ensemble.

Orange You Glad You Wore That Blazer?

A great color scheme always makes a nice outfit even better. This young blonde dons a bright orange, waist length blazer on top of a pink and white striped shirt. The lining of the blazer is pink and shown by the rolled up cuffs. The neutral khaki pants unsuccessfully try to ground the orange, but do match the handbag and thong sandals.

Fro-nomenal Outfit!

This woman truly stands out from the crowd. One would think that so many patterns in one outfit would clash, but she pulls it off well. Her red maxi dress is adorned with a yellow and purple floral print. Her ankle boots are covered in python print, and her handbag covered in Navajo symbols. The black blazer helps to keep the patterns separated and in harmony.

Her giant gold hoop earrings go well with the gold cuff on her left wrist. The bold red lipstick and strong blush help to accentuate her strong facial features.

The dirty blonde afro is quite a throwback. Anyone who has the confidence to wear this hairstyle today, definitely wins my respect and kudos.
