Sunday Special: High Fashion On The High Line

I figured I’d try something different, and ended up on The High Line this week. I am lucky I did because I came across this stunning model posing for a shoot. With her hair slicked back and her makeup done, she braved the hot sun to provide the perfect pose. The lace blouse she wore is stunning, with a Renaissance look to it, especially with the bell cuffs on the sleeves. The gold weave and encrusted jewels create a lovely design that screams “high fashion!” The white, pleated trouser, into which the blouse is tucked, creates a nice a simple, refined buffer. The cuffed legs provide a little air circulation in the heat and also show off the Lacoste tennis shoes, which are perfect for the boardwalk feel of the High Line.

TREND ALERT: Jumpsuits Suit This Summer

Jumpsuits are very trendy this Summer, and it seems the more intricate the pattern, the better.

This first woman wears a tank jumpsuit with a plunging V neckline, and a black and white splatter pattern. She wears a copper Renoir cuff belt that helps to keep the loose fabric tight around her waist. The legs of the jumpsuit sit dangling above the ankle, where the black t-strap sandals start. The copper belt adds a balanced touch of color to this black and white outfit, as do her manicure and pedicure.

This young lady takes a break from her day to check her phone, while sitting on the back stoop of the Equinox SoHo. Her spaghetti strap jumpsuit isn’t void of color or pattern. The purple background is a vibrant color, and allows for the tan tiger stripes to pop. The gold necklace with turquoise inlays helps to dazzle her soft swooping neckline. Her belt, bag and flats are all of matching brown leather. This uniform, neutral, color scheme helps to keep the emphasis on her lively jumpsuit.

Street Corner Colorblocking

This young Knicks fan has put together quite the example of colorblocking. His blue jean jacket, ripped and frayed, with spikes adorning the right chest, sits atop a bold yellow Playboy t-shirt. Below the shirt is a faded red pair of slim fit jeans, tucked into the top of leopard print Adidas high-tops. The orange Knicks hat, which sits atop a white bandana, tops this outfit off with the bright team colors. The purple Urban Outfitters shopping bag adds just another color to this already colorful ensemble.

A Whole Lot Of Lace

It is rare that I come across a single item, so show stopping as this overlay, but today I was lucky. This young woman wears a scalloped lace, maxi overlay, with three quarter sleeves and a lace ruffle around the neck. Underneath the black lace lies a simple, skintight slip keeping her covered. The leather belt with caramel colored details, gathers the fabric at the waist creating a nice ripple effect, while thinning out her waistline. Her tribal print, lace-up booties are another beautiful addition to this ensemble, standing out below the lace. The tribal-style, coral necklace is a contrasting decoration to the lace neckline that gives the outfit a little more personality.

Peace & Colors

Color is always fun, and this young woman sure has a lot of it. The neon green tank, with a multicolored Miami Beach logo, has a swooping neck and low armholes, revealing a halter bra underneath. The faded cutoff jean shorts are held in place with a studded leather belt, that goes well with the black leather, multi-strap boots. There is an interesting dynamic between the high boots and the short jean cutoffs. Her leather handbag, with its multicolored leather patchwork, sets the bar for the rest of her accessories and is complimented nicely by the set of bangles on her wrist. The chain of feathers in her ear encompasses all the colors of the tank, and stands out against her long black hair and natural colored makeup.

Shades Of Grey & Nude

This young brunette is very well put together. Her sense of style is ageless, yet hip. The white top with its layered power shoulders creates a strong silhouette and the grey ascot adds a dash of elegance to the neckline. The shirt transitions, almost unnoticeably, into her extremely light grey skinny jeans. The nude kitten heel pumps are relatively easy to walk in, while still helping to shape her legs. The fringed leather messenger bag, matches the shoes perfectly, and comes to life with every step.

High Waist & Crop Top

This young lady looks like a star as she crosses Lafayette St. in SoHo. Her style is elegant but fun, using bright colors and crocheted patterns. The red, high-waisted pants are not form fitting, but the belted waist and pleats help to accentuate an hourglass silhouette. The pants’ bold red coloring is perfectly complimented by the bright yellow python print flats. The white open crochet crop top has a classic look to it, but allows for a sliver of midriff to show underneath its scalloped hemline. The open weave shoulder bag fits in perfectly with the color and design of the top, while the large ivory sunglasses match her pearl ring.

Modern In Black & White

This young woman plays with today’s trends to create a classically colored outfit. The white cotton tank is perfect for these summer months; its light color and airy construction make it easy to wear. The tank is tucked into a black lace maxi, creating a bold waistline. The lace has a floral and heart design, and the solid mini skirt underneath keeps it airy and appropriate. Her black toe loop, gladiator sandals are a great addition to this outfit and go well with her leather backpack. The silver, nail head cuff around her bicep is a fun and stylish accent, while the blood red manicure and pedicure adds a little color to this monochromatic outfit.

Cat Eyes & Ink

I found this young woman sitting on a stoop in SoHo. She has an elegant style, but there is a rebellious air about her, maybe it’s the tattoos. The sheer, cream-colored blouse with its white polka dots is a very classic piece, yet the rolled sleeves reveal a lion rampant tattooed cuff on her wrist. The black jeggings she is wearing also have a classic color with a modern construction. The tan wedge sandals go very well with the shirt, and allow her to show off her metallic blue pedicure. The swooping bangs of her up-do help to frame her piercing blue eyes accentuated by the cat eye eyeliner.

Meanwhile in Chelsea…

Chelsea, just like everywhere else in the Northeast, was extremely hot this weekend. Even for the coolest characters sweating was a problem. This young man braved the heat in long pants and a jacket, but carried with him a small towel to dab the sweat from his face. While definitely hot, his untucked, white button down looks great underneath the slim fitting black blazer. The skinny jeans have a nice colored wash and a unique trim around the ankles. The metallic silver, heel-less platform booties, sit right below the jeans, but steal the show from the rest of the outfit. Their unique design and reflective color, helps them standout regardless of the bustling city around them.
